The second time I travelled through Gambia with Ebrima Ceesay ( Passy ). It was a highly rewarding experience with more than 240 bird species in front of my lens. The guide is truly fantastic and knows the best spots for photography. Takes his time. A real recommendation. / Ebrima Ceesay ( Passy ) knows the best spots for bird photography. For me it was an exceptionally good experience, after having visited several other countries for photography. Gambia and Passy, an exceptional combination.

This guide – Ebrima Ceesay ( Passy ) – is truly one of a kind. He knows every bird species found in the country and also knows the right spots to photograph them well. He is patient and listens to your wishes. Big or small birds, he knows how to find them all. It was a highly rewarding bird tour.

Passy is a great birder and really knows his stuff. Although he always low our expectations by saying “it is nature, you know”, at the end of the day he always meets our expectations. He prefers to guide guests (especially young fanatic birders) who would like to see as many birds as possible or target specific species. He was always punctual, polite and patient and is well-respected by the other guides in the Gambia. This resulted in less-hassle, no matter how remote we were. Besides, the local people are very friendly in general. Additionally, his commitment and desire to give us an unforgettable experience was shown everyday. Without any doubts, I would fully recommend him as a bird guide. Passy has an extensive birders network and trainee guides stationed at most bird watching sites we visited. This resulted in a massive help when seeking out for some more difficult birds.
But he's not just one of the best guides I've encountered on our numerous trips, with a vast knowledge of the country's diverse ecosystems (coast, mangroves, wetlands, farmland, savanna and Sahel habitats, gallery forests, and even urban areas). He's also an honest and community-minded person who knows how to minimize the impact of traveling to a country striving to escape extreme poverty. Traveling with Passy through Gambia is to discover ancient traditions that are still alive, find medicinal plants still in use, and, above all, experience the intense sense of community that governs Gambian society. Thank you for these fantastic 10 days, and thank you also to Hussein for his skill and caution behind the wheel. We will never forget Gambia, the land of smiles.
